Darryn And Elizes Wedding At Aa Badenhorst Wines
Real Wedding Feature
In a picturesque setting at AA Badenhorst Wines in May 2021, Darryn and Elize exchanged vows, weaving a unique blend of whimsy and intimacy into their special day. The couple’s personal touch was evident in every detail, most notably the breathtaking display of 1000 origami cranes handcrafted by the bride and groom themselves, adding an unforgettable charm to their ceremony.
OUR FIRST MEETING
From that serendipitous first meeting in De Waal Park, where a romantic ‘The Notebook’ moment unfolded beneath the park’s picturesque fountain, to the natural progression of our relationship – it was as if fate had brought us together. The ease with which we connected from the start was undeniable. Fast-forward to March 2019, when we exchanged vows and sealed our love with an engagement. Initially, we planned a two-year countdown, with May 2021 marked as the big day.
Little did we know, Mother Nature had other plans. A global pandemic would soon follow, making us grateful for that initial planning period. It allowed us to adjust our expectations and make the most of a smaller yet intimate celebration. Thankfully, our suppliers remained understanding and accommodating throughout, ensuring our special day became an unforgettable experience.
STYLE INSPIRATION
The wedding’s unique decor was deeply rooted in its picturesque venue, Kalmoesfontein, an old farm with a blend of rustic charm and modern touches. Drawing inspiration from the natural surroundings, Elize wanted to incorporate dried grasses and plants into the design. With the directive to exclude flowers, Michelle Smith and Helena Sheridan foraged foliage on the farm and in the Swartland to create simple yet impactful table settings and installations that suspended above the guests.
A personal touch was added with 1000 paper cranes folded during lockdown, which adorned the intimate reception area and dance floor. The couple also took pride in crafting their own stationery and wedding website. Elize expertly handled all the planning and coordination leading up to the special day, resulting in a visually stunning celebration that exceeded their expectations.
THE SUPPLIERS
We started planning our special day by booking Chantel and May Photography, recognizing the importance of capturing every moment as it unfolds. Semma, the venue coordinator, proved to be a lifesaver – her attentive nature and willingness to address any concerns made the entire process seamless. The venue itself took care of catering, offering farm-fresh delights that wowed our guests.
Meanwhile, Semma’s husband Charl crafted a stunning harvest table for pre-reception snacks and drinks, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. We also relied on Southern Sound to provide the perfect ambiance, with constant communication leading up to the big day, it felt like they were just as thrilled about our wedding as we were!
THE DRESS
Elize’s search for her dream wedding dress had been ongoing for months, spanning online marketplaces and boutiques across Cape Town. However, it wasn’t until she visited Chanelle Cindy Bridal that fate intervened, and the perfect dress caught her eye during a fitting. The serendipitous discovery rendered all previous considerations of designing a custom gown obsolete.
As if orchestrated by destiny, the stunning cape from Blackeyed Susan was added as an eleventh-hour touch, responding to ominous weather forecasts on the day of the wedding. Additionally, Elize’s exquisite headpiece and earrings were crafted by her talented friend Tiffany Marx, further elevating the overall aesthetic.
