When did you meet and how did he propose?

We first crossed paths in 2016, during our freshman year at NWU. It was in a programming class where he offered his assistance, and we began to build a connection. A few months later, our friendship blossomed into romance. I was drawn to his gentle nature and unwavering kindness – I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. Fast forward to 2019, when he surprised me with an intimate picnic by the serene Mooi-River.

It was there that he popped the question, filling my heart with overwhelming joy as I realized we would soon be exchanging vows and starting a new chapter together.

What was the style or Inspiration for your wedding day?

As I scrolled through Pinterest, overwhelmed by a hundred different ideas, I struggled to define my wedding floristry style. That’s when I received a referral for Lizelle from Pronkertjie three months prior to the big day. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise! Her Instagram page showcased her incredible work, and I knew she was the one to bring my Pinterest inspirations to life. I shared all my ideas with her, including one of her own designs that caught my eye.

Following our coffee meeting, I confidently told my husband that Lizelle and her team were the perfect fit for us. Their modern, minimalist aesthetic perfectly captured the essence of what I had envisioned, and they exceeded my expectations by creating something even more breathtaking than I could have ever imagined.

Who were your suppliers and why did you choose them?

As we continued our search for the perfect wedding venue, Oakfield Farm Wedding Venue stole our hearts with its enchanting Dairy chapel. We knew immediately that this was the place to make memories, and we booked it without hesitation. Our exceptional photographers Aline from Agape Photography and Marzaan from Voetpad Fotografie brought our special day to life through their incredible work. Their passion and dedication shone through in every frame, making us feel grateful for their presence.

I never expected to fall in love with my wedding dress as much as I did at Whimsical Bridal. The intricate details captivated me, and I knew I had found the perfect gown. Our talented makeup artist Monique from Moniq brought out the best in everyone, leaving us all radiant and glowing. Zelna Pienaar’s masterful hair styling completed our looks. Our beautiful bridesmaids, mother, and mother-in-law owed their stunning appearances to these gifted professionals.

Their combined expertise resulted in a breathtakingly lovely group of ladies. The Allora Collection’s custom stationery perfectly reflected our wedding style, with each detail meticulously crafted. The keepsake guestbook from Keepsake Creative was especially treasured, filled as it was with heartfelt messages and Polaroid photos from our loved ones. Lilly Leigh Co.’s unique ring box design added a touch of elegance to our special day.

And Appelliefie Cake Artistry’s delectable wedding cake was the crowning glory, its simple yet striking design exceeding my expectations.

What was the highlight of your wedding day?

As we looked back on our decision to postpone our wedding by a year, it became crystal clear that the true highlight was being able to share this special moment with all the people we love. The big day itself was nothing short of perfection, with every supplier exceeding our expectations and each detail meticulously planned. But what truly made it unforgettable for us was having the opportunity to simply be surrounded by our closest friends and family as we celebrated our marriage.

Any tips or advice for bride’s planning their wedding day? // What was your experience in planning a wedding during lockdown?

When planning a wedding during uncertain times, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and emotional. The prospect of postponing or making last-minute changes due to shifting regulations can be heartbreaking. I know firsthand the feeling of disappointment and sadness that comes with adjusting your plans. But here’s the thing: your wedding day is just the beginning of your life together, not the end all. It’s a celebration of your love and commitment to one another.

So, instead of letting the uncertainty get you down, focus on what truly matters – marrying your best friend. Even if it’s not the fairy tale wedding you always envisioned, it can still be the start of an incredible journey together. And let’s be real, being married is a blessing that far outweighs any logistical challenges.

Did you do anything differently compared to the traditional wedding customs?

Our unconventional love story began with a unique twist – we got married on our one-year wedding anniversary. Initially, we had planned our special day for June 5th, 2020, but as the pandemic unfolded, we decided to push it back to the same date in 2021. However, just seven days before our original wedding date, we changed our minds and decided to tie the knot a year earlier than expected. The reason behind this spontaneous decision was simple – we didn’t want to put off our marriage any longer.

It’s been an incredible experience having the privilege of marrying my best friend twice.

Is there anything you would’ve done differently looking back?

As I reflect on our journey, I’m reminded of the serendipitous twists and turns that led us to where we are today. Initially, I was devastated when we had to postpone our wedding, but looking back, it was a pivotal moment. Without that pause, we might not have discovered some truly incredible vendors who have since become integral to our celebration.

It’s a strange kind of gratitude, but I’m thankful for the unexpected detour that allowed us to cross paths with these talented professionals in 2020.
